Worth All the While

I was real sure that I wouldn’t like Fall Out Boy after listening to "Sugar We’re Going Down Swinging."  Lucky for me Jen happened to have the CD.  After doing my best drunk-ass rendition of the song in Ocala for the O-crew, I now have the entire CD available for your listening pleasure.

Top song list to be posted soon.

The gentle pitter of the rain
makes me think of days gone by
the drops, the days:

They fall through the skies,
are blown and tossed.
But still they fall
to make a drop
in the puddle of my life.

The ripples
bounce and reflect in rings
to change the rest–
so every drop is not a drop
but a lifetime.

Nickelback’s new single is quite possibly one of my all time favorites, and it’s not even out on CD yet.  I love songs that tell a story and put you right into the setting, painting a picture with colors you might not have ever noticed had you really been there.  Fitting for a song called Photograph.  The CD won’t be released until October 8th which is a little disappointing, but I guess all good things are better with a bit of anticipation.  Listen to Photograph on Nickelback’s website or try this direct link…and don’t forget to read the lyrics.  Powerful.

This song brings back quite a few fond memories.  Probably the most vivid is listening to How You Remind Me sitting in the ‘92 Camaro at Saint Leo, near Alumni and the tennis courts after busting my ass all day at Tingley from 8-5 and then Saddlebrook from 6-11…or riding around with Bill, tearing up the orange groves and laying down some rubber on the back rodes near the lake.  Now I’ve gotta go listen to The State and see what else I can dig up.

Seems a bit odd to me that intangible things…memories, relationships, feelings…are the things that are hardest to say goodbye to.  Something you can’t touch, can’t see, can’t feel…you know it’s there, of course, but where?  What makes them so difficult to walk away from?  At first glance, I’d think that cold, hard things would be the worst to leave…your home, a special birthday gift, that locket your great-grandmother passed down to your mom, who gave it to you on your 12th birthday instead of your 18th because she wouldn’t be around to see you become a teenager…the kinds of things that are irreplaceable.  But aren’t the memories and feelings irreplaceable too?

I’m beginning to think not; quite the opposite, actually, and the main culprit seems to be time.  The further in time I get from a person, a happy memory, nearly anything, the more transparent it becomes.  Sure, it will always be there, but just not as vivid, as clear.  And I’ll put ten bucks on it…look hard enough and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

It’s hard to say it, time to say it
Goodbye, goodbye

Just don’t say goodbye to the good ones.

So what do you think of the new header up at the top of the site? Hilarious, I say.

Tessa graduated from police academy last Thursday, and a bunch of us went to the ceremony in St Pete. Tessa’s best friend Crystal had flown into town from Pittsburg, so I got to see her for the first time in a couple years, which was rather nice. The ceremony was quite a nice event, followed by a tasty dinner at Antonio’s, drinks at The Rack, and some dancing at Hyde Park Cafe. I took off work on Friday to help her move into the spare bedroom. Things went pretty well, considering how much stuff there was to move. I didn’t realize a girl could squeeze so many clothes into such a small space. The move started around 8 am and finished around 2 pm, when we relaxed and got ready for the party that night.

Saturday was pretty relaxing, and we ended up going to Benigans and then hitting Peabody’s for a bit of competitive dart play (Go Team Tits!). When we got home, Morpheus was a riot like no other. Pics coming soon. Somehow I think Crystal and I will find the pictures more entertaining than anyone else, but that might not be so surprising considering the state we were in. I don’t think I woke up Sunday until 1:30 in the afternoon.

Crystal’s departure on Sunday night wrapped up a pretty good weekend. More are sure to follow.

On a completely unrelated note, Vegas will have to wait until next year…I think the next vacay is going to be skiing somewhere up north. Destination TBA.

Quite an interesting writing style, but I’d have to say one of the web’s more interesting reads: Not Pretty.

Well, I can’t think of a whole hell of a lot to update you with. Morpheus is still a boy, although he tends to hump girl dogs only 33.3% of the time. The other one-third is spent humping male dogs, and the final third is split between my leg and whoever walks in the door. I’ve been trying to ask him which way he swings, but he just won’t tell me. Or we could just paper-rock-scissor for it, though Morpheus lacks opposable thumbs, so I’m not sure that he could play. On second thought, I just acted out all of the paper-rock-scissor combos, and there are no thumbs involved. Come back soon for the Paper-Rock-Scissor-On-Morpheus-and-his-preference battle. And I’ll be damned if there isn’t already a PaperRockScissor.com website already registered. I could have come up with some pretty funny shit for that.

On the home front, the countdown is on for roomie-arrival-day, which is tentatively scheduled for July 29. I think we’re going to hafta do a house-warming party, aka come and get tanked for the hell of it, sometime in August. I may be headed to Vegas (no, not to get married, you condescending fool…I’ve already done that, remember?) for the second week of August, but if you think you’d be interested in attending the party (and/or Vegas), drop me a note and I’ll see about adding you to the guest list. No guarantees, though (except for Vegas).

Come to think of it, that was a fairly decent update. And now, I think I’ll make a Run For the Border ™. I’m starving and there are double decker tacos and mexi-melt burritoes just around the corner.

Fuck yeah.
